I watched The Happening featuring Marky Mark Wahlberg and the expressionless Zoey Deschanel tonight with the boys.  As with most of M. Night Shamalyn’s movies, the boys and I enjoyed it (we even liked Lady In The Water) but it had some of the most brutal scenes I have witnessed in a movie.

I can see why there was some outcry in NY about a scene in the movie that depicted suicides from construction workers jumping from a tall building.  We’ve seen people leap to their death before but this time we SEE THEM LAND ON THE GROUND!

It definitely had some shock factor. Wahlberg got better as the movie went on but for the first hour, the boys and I kept saying, “Hey plant. I’m Mark Wahlberg. Say hi to your mother for me. ”

I give Zoey two thumbs up for eye acting. All she does is see how wide she can make them. Overall the movie  had a few spooky moments and Ft Worth’s own Betty Buckley was very good as a crazy old lady.  I’d say it’s worth a rent.
