So I was watching VH1’s Jump Start the other morning and this song comes on from new singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles and I stood transfixed for a full 2 minutes just listening to it before I realized why it caught me ear. It’s the syncopation on the piano. Freakin’ awesome. And yes, after about 10 minutes of banging around, I can now play it. Now I just gotta learn the lyrics.
Quick note: Weird that she has different version of the opening chords when she plays it live….
2nd quick note: Her official music video is not available stream -very dumb idea imho- so instead I am linking to an unofficial fan’s version…
As I was listening to a random selection on my iPod, I came across a goofy Good Charlotte song that I had remixed for my kids using Spongebob Squarepants sound effects.
So last month, I sat down at my little yamaha piano keyboard and started messing around with 3/4 time. You know 3/4 time right? It’s the “waltz” times signature. 3 beats per measure. BUM bum bum BUM bum bum. Most of the stuff I write is 4/4 and I wanted to see what I could come up with in the waltz style. So I just started playing and laying down tracks. Just piano and strings, but I could hear a French horn in my head. I guess that will come later. Anyway, I really enjoyed how it turned it out considering it was all improv and done in about 5 minutes and wanted to share it.
Hey…here is some audio from my wildly successful and reportedly entertaining interview with Pugs and Kelly on Live 105.3 FM. The opening is cutoff a bit and be prepared to let the audio stream buffer for about 10 seconds before you hear anything.
