I went to the Museum of Modern Art during my last trip to NY and tried to catch some decent shots of people. People doing ordinary things without noticing me taking a picture of them. Last week I showed you the guy with at the hot dog stand. This week we have the MOMA guard in the outdoor sculpture garden.
I call this piece “Focused Tai Chi by Bored Guard Outdoors”

“Minds are like parachutes-they only function when open.“
An oldie but a goodie this week. And yes, that is the same Dewar who makes the whiskey. I try to have an open mind and see both sides of an issue. And if I ever challenge you, it’s because I want to see where you stand. If your argument is strong enough there is a good chance you could sway me based on my knowledge (or lack of) in that particular subject. On a completely different note, how much fun would it be to skydive! I’m thinking I could handle a tandem dive but not a solo one.

Wow, the site is slow today. Must be all the Russian hackers trying to infiltrate me. Listen up comrade, do not make me unleash ze hounds on you, da?
Anyway, it’s around 11pm in Times Square and I am killing time on what I think is going to be my last night (ended up staying an additional day because of airport delays) and I come across a row of sketch artists doing caricatures and portraits. I tried to line up the shot so you could see the artist’s rendering as well as the subject and I think I did a decent job but the lack of light didn’t help out with the focus.

If you notice, the artist puts a slight smile on his face, even though he looks like he’s deep in thought. Deep, deep thoughts…like why is this strange young man taking my picture?

This week’s quote comes from that great sage, Tommy Smothers
“Red meat is not bad for you. Now blue-green meat, that’s bad for you!”
Okay, today I am going to share a little secret of mine that I look forward to each week, but you can’t tell anybody. Besides, they won’t believe you anyway.
Boston Market has one of the best tortilla soups in the country.
SHhhhhhh. I don’t want the word to get out cause they might raise the price. Seriously, it’s really good. And I have a tried a lot of tortilla soups in my life. They are the best tasting quickserve (fastfood) tortilla soup in my opinion without a doubt.
You see that small soup bowl over there with the spoon on it? That’s the tortilla soup. It’s got a “tomatoey” broth, onions, celery, spices, cilantro, several chunks of rotisserie chicken and here’s the best part- you add the chips and cheese when you want!
Think about it. If they added the chips and cheese it would be all melted and soggy by the time you ate it-especially if your order was to go. But since you add it yourself, you control the crunch factor. Brilliant!
But that’s not all, in addition to the soup Boston Market has a choice of salad to go with it. I used to be the Caesar guy but I tried the chopped salad and it won me over..here is a partial ingredient list:
LETTUCE, TOMATOES, DRESSING (SOYBEAN OIL, WATER, WHITE WINE VINEGAR, SALT, DISTILLED VINEGAR, GARLIC, SHALLOTS, DIJON MUSTARD, HONEY, BROCCOLI, YELLOW SQUASH, CARROTS, ZUCCHINI SQUASH, RED ONION, BLUE CHEESE, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, SWEETENED DRIED CRANBERRIES.
They had me at blue cheese and won me completely over with the sweetened dried cranberries.
But, you might say, “That sounds kind of expensive!” Ah-ha, the soup and the salad AND the drink AND a piece of sweet cornbread is only $5.99.
Not bad right? Well get this…you can print off a coupon and get 1.25 off!
So your 5.99 turns into about $5.14 based on the tax rate in your area.
Now that… is a deal. And yes, I get it once a week.
Remember, this is our secret!

I’ve had a couple of people ask me for help on developing their website and I have to say that I am beyond flattered. I can’t take full credit for how everything looks because this is site is based on a template found at wordpress.org. If you have any interest in developing your webmaster skills and/or creating a blog, I would suggest checking them out!

On a different note, I set up a couple of java apps to track where various visitors of toddcarruth.com are coming from and it’s kind of crazy. In fact, if you click on the map in left sidebar, you can see where various ip addresses seem to be located. China, England, Russia. Now I am guessing that some of those are just spammers trying to fake comment and get link-backs etc… but I wonder how many are legit?
So here is a completely anonymous poll. No limits and you can vote as much as you want. I am just curious.
Where are you?
Total Voters: 6

Still throwing out some lovely pics for you to check out from my vacation in Vegas last month.
Here is the lobby of the Wynn.

Quite lovely isn’t it? You would have a hard time walking down that hall without getting your picture taken because it HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! Seriously, every single time I walked by somebody was taking a picture. And really, could you blame them? Directly ahead is the parasol bar (which I kept calling parasail bar for some reason) and just to the left is the casino. I made friends with the roulette machine very quickly and turned 5 bucks into 20 bucks and then magically back into 5 bucks. I’m a regular Doug Henning!

“The opportunity for brotherhood presents itself every time you meet a human being.”
-Jane Wyman
I thought this quote might be appropriate for this day as we check out this NY sidewalk vendor contemplate his daily existence. Or maybe he just wishes he were on vacation somewhere.
And yes, the above quote is from the recently passed away actress and former Mrs. Ronald Reagan.
On a completely different note: Check out the new poll on the right side and vote for the color tie I should wear this Friday.

Okay, it’s time to get back into the swing of things…Here is this week’s pic.
See, it’s a picture of a girl taking a picture of Lake Meade from the top of Hoover Dam. You see those white lines in the rock? That’s where the lake levels used to be. There has been a 6 year drought in the area and the locals are starting to get a little concerned.
