Maybe Not So Much

Today’s quote, which I thought was appropriate for this week, comes from the movie Wall Street

“The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.”

-Gordon Gecko from Wall Street

I'm still a little woozy from yesterday.

I'm a little woozy from yesterday.

Yeah, maybe not quite so much greed next time.  Let’s hope this economic “bump” “reset” is resolved soon.

Monday DVD Review-Monster House

So, I was all set to review 21, the movie about a bunch of MIT kids that learn how to count cards and rip off casinos but I didn’t watch yet.  Instead I got sucked in last night by MONSTER HOUSE!

Hey, I just realized I grabbed the French version of the poster. Ah, C’est la vie.  Hey, for a CG animated movie, this thing was really suspenseful.

SHORT PLOT SYNOPSIS: Scary old guy in scary old house tells kids to get off his lawn (insert Grady Niblo voice here) and 2 kids are determined to retrieve toys that keep disappearing inside a house that appears to be alive.

OVERALL: Steven Speilberg and Robert Zemeckis executive produce this animated movie that uses performance capture to render out the characters movements and facial expressions. Remember The Polar Express and how vacant and hollow the eyes of the characters were? Well, they did a much better job this time.  And the “acting” is amazing.  In fact, this movie  is almost in Pixar territory with its animation and camera angles and plot pacing, etc.  Steve Buscimi is the voice of the old guy and I even recognized Napolean Dynamite as another character. Gosh!

RENT IT?:If your kids haven’t seen it and you are looking for “scary” movie for October, then yes. It was on the Cartoon Network this past Sunday so it should probably appear again in 2 or 3 weeks.

UPDATE: The director of Monster House, Gil Kenan, has directed another movie that is coming out on October 10 called The City of Ember.  The trailer looks okay and hey, is that Bill Murray as the mayor?

Truly Random Thoughts on Friday

Warning: The following thoughts are EXTREMELY random and may or may not be connected in any way.

  • A friend of mine is about to start helping her relative raise a young (7 or 8 yrs old) boy.  We went over some scenarios and she was very quick with the answer on how she would handle certain situations. I guess some people are just cut out to be a Mom no matter what.
  • My niece is pregnant. I called my sister to give her a hard time about being a grandmother but she spoiled my fun because several of her friends already have grand-kids.  Why is everybody getting older? Stop it!
  • Friends at Fox asked me if missed working in the morning.  I miss the people and the camaraderie but good God, do I NOT miss the early mornings.  Fill-in work is perfect for me now.
  • My son and I watched Good Eats on Wednesday night and Alton Brown made omelets.  At the end of the show, he made a frittata.  Thursday morning, we made a frittata and it was awesome. And I like saying frittata.
  • There is a chance I might go to Miami beach in December. Twist my arm.
  • MOSS now means something completely different to me than it did 2 weeks ago.
  • Hospital bill is finally finally getting wrapped up. I will share on Monday. Promise.
  • I try to keep my Facebook profile limited to friends I have actually met. Myspace is a free-for-all.
  • Twitter is starting to annoy me a little.
  • I would like to try my hand at starting up a business some day.  I think.
  • I need golf lessons. Played this past weekend and I was really not very good. Worse than usual. Disappointed in my performance.  No wait, that was what my date said.
  • My answer to almost any concert that is coming to town featuring a band I like: “I would go if somebody gave me free tickets.”
  • Somebody is giving John McCain some bad advice.
  • Joe Biden needs to be quiet and do some research.
  • Go Frogs. Beat OU!

W the Movie

Oliver Stone’s new movie about the early days of current Bush’s presidency will be coming out next month and the 2nd trailer just hit the net.  I can’t embed it on this site so here is the link.

W The Movie

There is a quick cut to a scene where Bush is choking on a pretzel.  I had completely forgotten about that. Remember how bruised up his face was?

Where did that salty sucker go?

Where did that salty sucker go?

No matter where you land in the political spectrum, the movie does look interesting.

Picture and Music

<—-Check it out now! The funk so brother. I got it to work. If you are using Internet Explorer 6.0 or above or any Firefox browser, you should be able to see and click on the black little jukebox on the left side of this page and start streaming a few of my tunes, dude.  It contains various mashups and remixes of songs that I messed with as well as a few original compositions that I performed on my keyboard. (Yay, 10 years of piano finally paying off, huh mom?)  Oh and now for the picture:

Todd Carruth and Chip Waggoner

Big thumbs up from Chip!

In honor of my recent fill-in duty for Chip I thought I would post a rare behind the scene look showing us actually getting along for once.

What a Lovely Thought

Here is today’s quote:

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
~Berthold Auerbach

Ahhh, now isn’t that just lovely. My soul could use a good washing. Now along those lines of music, I am attempting to place a jukebox on  toddcarruth.com. Still ironing out the kinks but you can go to the audio page for a few sounds that I have created.

Amazing Escape

Okay, I know that Mondays are usually Todd’s DVD review days but I am going to switch it out this week with Thursday because I found this very awesome escape video.

I especially like it at the end when she can’t decide if she should jump or not.
