More Deep Random Thoughts

  • Happy Halloween!
  • Ha! I made Tell It To Tim this morning! A few Fox 4 viewers had an opinion on my facial hair.  Feel free to express your thoughts by voting on the right sidebar.
  • I could handle 80 degrees for a high pretty much everyday.  Although, it’s those hot 100+ degree temps and those rare bitter cold teen temps that make us appreciate a high of 80. - obvious Todd
  • My ex has an iPhone. How do I know? Because every time she sends me an email, it says “Sent from an iPhone” below the text of her message. I replied back with “Sent from a 3 year old laptop that’s about to crash.”  Hey, it made me giggle.
  • I created an ad for my company to use in a local charity program event.  I haz photoshop skillz.
  • Bell Sophomore team won AGAIN! Go Blue Raiders. That’s right-undefeated with one game to go again arch rival Trinity.  Son 1 of 2 did not get interception this week and the streak is broken.
  • Son 2 of 2 is borrowing my original 1982-83 Journey Frontiers Tour T-Shirt for 80s day today at school.  I bought him some fake Ray-Bans and I told him he needed to fold  the legs of his jeans and roll them up a notch.  He looked at me like I was crazy.  Was I the only one that did that back in the 80s?
  • Still loves me some Journey. As well as Giuffria. Does that ring any bells?
  • Hopped on the scale yesterday. I am about to weigh more than I ever have in my life. Check that. I am about to go on a diet.
  • I haven’t dressed up for Halloween for 3 years.  But next year I plan on going as Beetlejuice.

Oogie Boogie Man

I enjoy watching the Nightmare before Christmas during the holidays and I remember my kids really having fun with it but my favorite part has always been the Oogie Boogie song. I know I try to mimic a lot of voices (Bullwinkle, anybody?) but I can nail the Oogie Boogie song.  The character’s voice, performed by actor and singer Ken Page, is right in my baritone/bass range and it’s such a great song.

Where’s The Snow?

IMG_1172

Hers is the view from my cabin in Colorado.

I wish. It’s actually a shot from Keystone Ski Resort in Dillon, CO. So much fun!

Now as far as the cold is concerned, my philosophy is:

“If it gets below freezing, it needs to be snowing.”

Tuesday’s Quote

“A kiss without a moustache, is like soup without salt.” - Breton saying

Well, I am not sporting a mustache but I do have the goatee goin’ on right now and so when I woke up early yesterday morning, I had to make the call on keeping it or not.  I decided to go with it since I was filling in for only one day for Chip and hope that FOX corporate wouldn’t yell at me after my shift.

It’s actually thicker than it looks here in the pic from the summer.

Evan said I looked like the Develed Ham Guy Well, I WAS wearing a red shirt.

I told Tim it was my Halloween costume and I was alternate universe Evil Todd.

Megan said it made me look dangerous. Let me repeat that, Megan said it made me look dangerous.

Yeah…. that’s right. I am… dangerous.

Monday monday

I did not see a movie this weekend.  Although I do have the first two discs from the 2nd season of Showtime’s Dexter.  (loved the first season) Definitaely worth checking it out if you enjoyed, say, Six Feet Under or even CSI kind of stuff.

So instead of a DVD review, here is quick vid from this past weekend SNL.

“…there was a man….”

I need to work on step 4.

fryday wrandumb thots

  • I get sucked into the internet too easily. Damn you DIGG.
  • Bell Soph Team won yet again. Undefeated, baby. Son 1 of 2 got another interception. Awesome.
  • I like cool not cold weather. Last night sitting in the stands got cold because of the wind and the fact that we’re just sitting on metal bleachers. I learned a long time ago that you can never dress too warmly for a chilly night. (Or bring too many blankets- I shared my extra one with the parents behind me.
  • People are sending me false rumors about the candidates in my email.  It’s called www.SNOPES.com people.
  • I want to go to the TCU game on Saturday but I have a high profile charity thing in Grapevine on Saturday. The Grace Gala.
  • Saw the Chipster doing a promo for Good Day. Looks good. I like it.
  • I thought I was done with ties when I stopped doing TV full time. I got a promotion and now I am wearing ties again. The Man pulled me back in.
  • I went to the Main Event and defeated my date in bowling and pool.  I don’t think she likes me anymore.  Should I have thrown a game on purpose?
  • I make way too many paninis at home.
  • I am addicted to Satellite Radio.  It’s almost reached the point of DVR status. (can’t live without it)
  • My son won an autographed Marc Johnson skateboard through a random email contest. Well whaddayaknow? People do win.
  • I would like to be a yuck monkey on 1310 The Ticket.  If I were in college I would totally start working at that station as a board op/intern.
  • However, the state of the broadcast industry is in sorry shape in terms of jobs available and pay scale. Sheesh.
  • It’s soup season.

Mercedes Ad circa 1985

80s teen with Mercedes

Check out this totally awesome magazine ad for a Mercedes 380 SL Convertible from 1985.

Oh wait, my bad. That’s actually me right before I went to prom. Props to my Uncle Bob for funding my wheels that weekend which was very cool.

I really liked that car. I wonder how much one would cost today?

And 5 minutes later, the answer is…. anywhere from $4000 to $29.000.

I’m thinking the gas mileage is probably not too great but how cool would I look driving around in that thing?  Now I just need to go buy a mullet wig.

Reading Quote

So I was reading my Entertainment Weekly which comes every, um, week and I read that this famous author, David Foster Wallace, had died.   He suffered from severe depression and reportedly went off his medication because of side effects and committed suicide.

Now, admittedly, my nightstand has been rather bare over the past few years with the exception of the occasional Harry Potter book or Stephen King novel and so I had no idea who David Foster Wallace was.  But I checked out some of his articles online and enjoyed what I read and so I went to the library and got Infinite Jest. Wow. Nearly a thousand pages but I am going to give it a try and so if you don’t see for a few days, call the paramedics.  I am trapped under a hardcover novel.

And that brings us to this week’s quote:

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

GO Speedracer GO!

So I finally got around to watching a movie that I wanted to see at the theater but didn’t:
SpeedRacer! It was produced and directed by the same guys that did the Matrix.  And I was expecting corny dialogue, some bad acting and awesome visuals.

This is my angry face!

This is my angry face!

And that’s exactly what I got.

Seriously cool racing scenes.  A friend of mine described the special effects like a “a rainbow that threw up on the screen.” Hey, I thought it was cool.

PLOT: Hey, it’s Speed Racer, come on! You’ve seen the cartoon, right?

Speed’s older brother “dies” in a fiery collision and Speed follows in his footsteps. Ultimate race at the end to help show that cheaters never win.

OVERALL: Another movie that really pops on HD.  By the way, I don’t have an HD DVD player. (or Blu-Ray, for that matter).  But I do have a progressive DVD Player using component connections and I tell you, it looks great on an HD TV. Anyway, the racing is the best part and fortunately, that’s most of the movie.  If you were a fan of the cartoon, you will enjoy picking out all of the details that Wachowski brothers got right, including the CHa-Cha-Cha sound that the Mach 5 car makes when you push that jump button.

RENT IT: Just for the racing scenes. Very cool.

UPDATE: In its opening weekend, the film grossed $18,561,337 from around 6,700 screens at 3,606 theaters in the United States and Canada, ranking third at the box office behind Iron Man (in its second weekend) and What Happens in Vegas… (a new release).[58] In its second weekend, the film grossed $8,117,459 and ranked #4 at the box office. The results were well below studio expectations[59], given that production costs of Speed Racer are estimated to be about $120 million USD.[60] Despite the low box office numbers, Warner Brothers remains optimistic about sales of associated products ranging from toys to tennis shoes.

I am still looking for a red Speed Racer ascot.
