Monday DVD Pick-Planet Earth

I didn’t watch 21 again. But I have a good reason. I taped the fantastic Discovery Channel’s series called Planet Earth (they have been repeating it at night)

This is an excuse to get an HD TV.

This is an excuse to get an HD TV.

and i have to tell you, aside from sports, this is the reason to have HD.  There are some scenes in the desert where these elephants are marching across the continent to find water and it’s truly breathtaking. Also the stuff with the sharks jumping out of the water to catch the seals.  I mean I am just sitting here and saying, “Wow.”

Even my teenagers are watching it without complaining and so you know it’s gotta be somewhat entertaining if it holds their attention.

SHORT PLOT SYNOPSIS: Um, it’s the planet.  And all the really cool animals and plants on it and stuff. In High Definition. Actually each hour focuses on  a theme like “Pole to Pole” or “Caves” or “Fresh Water”.  There is even an excellent sort of “how did they get that shot” 10 minute featurette at the end of each show.

OVERALL:Hyped up beyond belief and actually worth every bit of it.

RENT IT?:Sure.. or just tape it on Discovery Channel HD.

UPDATE: The BBC version had  David Attenborough as the narrator instead of Sigourney Weaver. CDs featuring the music have been released and three 60-minute films that highlight the conservation issues surrounding some of the featured species and environments have been produced called Planet Earth: The Future.
